How to Evaluate Flooring Information You Find Online

Most homeowners start their flooring research online - and most of what they find is written to sell something, scraped by an AI, or copied from a forum thread about a different climate, a different subfloor, and a different decade. Before you price out a whole house based on a search result, here's how we'd separate the good information from the noise.

Ask Who Wrote It - and When

Look for a byline, a date, and a reason to trust the source. Flooring technology moves fast: waterproof cores, rigid cores, and new wear layers have all arrived in the last decade, so a five-year-old comparison can be completely out of date. Manufacturer spec sheets and an established local dealer are more reliable than an anonymous ranking site.

Treat AI Answers as a Starting Point

AI tools are great for vocabulary - they'll tell you what a wear layer is in ten seconds. But they average everything ever written, including outdated and wrong material, and they can't see your home. A summary that says vinyl is 'not durable' may be repeating advice from before modern luxury vinyl plank existed. Use AI to learn the terms, then verify with sources that know your market.

Beware the Sponsored Listicle

'Top 10 flooring brands' articles are usually affiliate roundtables - the ranking reflects commission rates. A better test: does the writer ever say anything negative about a product? Balanced sources admit trade-offs. So do we - ask us about any product's weak spots and we'll tell you, because the right answer sometimes is 'that's not the right floor for your basement.'

Check Prices Against Your ZIP Code

National price ranges are only a rough compass. Labor rates, subfloor conditions, and even stair counts vary by region. The only price that matters is an installed quote for your rooms - which is exactly what our free in-home estimate provides, in writing, on the spot.

The Final Test: See It in Your Home

Screens flatten color and hide texture. We bring full-size samples to your home so you can see how each option looks in your lighting, next to your cabinets, under your family's feet. Browse our products online to shortlist, then let's put the real thing in your hands.
